Bass Fishing is quite a sport today with anglers competing to get the biggest bass in the water, an experienced angler would knows there's more to bass fishing than dropping the boat in the water. An experienced angler knows how to locate a bass and how to catch the bass utilizing the different techniques, baits and presentations. For those that have just begun their bass fishing experience there are a lot of factors that they need to establish and understand. It begins with knowledge of how to read a map, water depth, clarity, temperatures, and idea of where the active bass would be present after a cold front, the early spring and late fall periods, seasonal patterns, finding structure areas and areas of vegetation. There are still other factors but only comes with experience and is more of a skill to identify them.
When it comes to reading maps, anglers refer to two types of lake maps one is the 'topographical' and the other is 'hot spot'. The difference is that the hot spots show more of the fishing spots and the topo map is detailed. Each has its advantages, so when reading the map it should be studied for a brief moment and then divided into grids so that you could determine where the fish would be present. So once the area is selected, a number of baits can be used to check if the bass determine a particular pattern. In order to locate the bass in a particular area the areas of vegetation, irregular contours, the closeness between shallow and deep water areas, types of structures are the elements that have to be usually considered. Its common knowledge that where there is food there is fish, so areas that have vegetation will have more bass than any other part of the lake.
Pulling up the boat in the middle of the growth is the best way that ensures a good catch in bass fishing for the angler. But quite a few anglers avoid this area because they hate to get weeds on the carpet of their boat or pull up weeds. Now in case there isn't any good vegetation area in the lake, the next thing to look at is the structures. The areas that have chunk areas of rock, over hangs, docks, irregular contours, stumps, rocky areas, ditches, roadbeds etc basically anything that is not flat and smooth. These structures are good spots for bass fishing and with the right bait and technique a catch is on the cards.
When it comes to the baits an angler will always have an assortment of spinner baits, lipless crank baits and top waters. Each of these also has different kinds as well each serves best in particular condition. The spinner bait for instance can be used at all depths for short periods and are versatile, easy to use and have a cover more water area. The top waters are can make fishing with baits exciting and are best used before sunrise, late evening or basically in cloudy conditions. And lastly is the lipless crank baits that are effective in identifying the bass.
